Douglas and Tracey at Sauble Falls near Sauble Beach

  • Us in front of the old sign in April 2011
  • Owners of Sauble Falls Bed and Breakfast
  • Douglas and Tracey

Douglas, my husband and professional chef, and I, purchased the Sauble Falls Bed and Breakfast near Sauble Beach after staying here as Guests ourselves in 2010. We fell in love with the Bruce Peninsula so the move from Montreal, Quebec at the end of April 2011 wasn't too hard :-). This adventure has been an awesome lifestyle change for us both and we can't wait to meet you!

Douglas worked as a professional Chef before becoming a bed and breakfast owner. He completed his professional culinary training in Montreal. After relocating to Ontario in the 1990s, Douglas then worked for many years in the food industry in Toronto and Oakville. My husband is an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, naturist, and he truly loves to cook. His favourite culinary techniques include “charcuterie and smoking”. For our Guests, his passion results in a sumptuous, full breakfast including his own home-smoked bacon and/or pea-meal bacon and/or homemade sausages! Our Guests LOVE "Doug's Bacon". His baking and pastries include scones with homemade lemon curd, crème fraîche and homemade jams; fresh cinnamon sticky buns; turnovers; cobbler; kuchen -- just to name a few. And these yummy treats are all from “scratch” and usually still warm from the oven. The only things that aren’t made in-house are the bread, yogurt and cereal.

As for me, my passion is people.  I spent most of my professional career with the United Nations (UN) where I worked in administration, public relations, and logistics for over 20 years and served in peacekeeping missions on three continents. I now take care of the public relations, website and advertising as well as the daily administration and the cleaning for our business. In our quieter seasons, I am a military training consultant and subject-matter expert for UN administration and logistics. I love dragonflies and eating Douglas’ “orgasmic” cooking!

Since moving to our little oasis, I’m an avid bird watcher (marking off species seen in my little “Peterson’s” guide); a novice geocacher and an apprentice star gazer! In addition to English, I speak French and Spanish and some (um pouco) Brazilian Portuguese.

We both enjoy the outdoors. In summer, we love to kayak the Sauble River and “walk on water” using our StandUp Paddleboards (SUPs) (these, along with kayaks and canoes are available free for our Guests). In the spring and fall, fishing becomes our main activity as well as marvelling at the rainbow trout and chinook salmon as they run up the cascading Sauble Falls (the Peninsula's only natural fish ladder) which is only some 400 feet away. Winter, for us, is a magical time on the Bruce. A few years ago, we got snowshoes and now we get out on them with Daisy as often as possible. Winter also brings the added bonus of our "own" provincial park where we take long walks (often on our snowshoes) and watch for deer and river otters who live there when the "public" is gone. Of course, when we have the place to ourselves, we also soak in our gorgeous outdoor hot tub while gazing at the amazing stars!

Meet our furry family at Sauble Falls Bed and Breakfast

  • Telly our Bengal Cat
  • Daisy Dog

We have two “furry kids” who live on our side of the house: “Telly” (a.k.a*. “Bengaland Show and Tell”), a male, Bengal cat, and “Daisy”, a female, Border Collie. Interestingly, Telly & Daisy both have July 22nd as their birthdays - Telly in 2009 and Daisy in 2012.

Do not worry, however, neither of our pets will ever be allowed in the Guest-only space or rooms - we promise. They live exclusively in our private living quarters and in our own outdoor space. Also, please note that Daisy is not a “barker” and has attended obedience class.

This website is dedicated to our beloved 20-year-old cat named Clara who left us peacefully for kitty heaven on July 25, 2012. She was our “boss” and she is missed.

  • Clara Cat; ruled the roost for 22 years. RIP July 25, 2012
